How To Lace Sneakers
Who knew there was more than one way?! Watch and learn how to customize those new sneakers with these four creative lacing techniques.
1. Double Criss Cross Lace
This shoe lacing technique gives your sneakers a more decorative look (and it’s easier than you think!).
Step 1:
Start from the top and pull laces down through the first two eyelets.
Step 2:
Take one end of the lace and wrap vertically around the horizontal lace. Repeat with the other end.
Step 3:
Cross laces on the inside and pull through eyelets on the next row down.
Step 4:
Continue for three more rows and then tuck laces underneath the tongue of the sneaker.
PRO TIP: As you’re pulling the laces through, keep straightening them so that you have a smooth finish.
2. INSIDE WEAVE LACE
If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional shoe lacing, give the subtle inside weave lace a try.
STEP 1:
Tie a knot one on end of the lace and weave it up from the top left eyelet.
STEP 2:
Pull lace across and through the eyelet on the other side.
STEP 3:
Pull lace back across and up through the eyelet one row down.
STEP 4:
Continue this criss crossing technique until you reach the bottom row. Then, tuck lace end under the tongue of the sneaker.
3. HASH LACE
Use this simple lacing method to create a row of hash (#) symbols on your sneakers.
STEP 1:
Start from the top and pull each end of the lace up through the first row of eyelets.
STEP 2:
Cross the ends on the outside and pull through the set of eyelets three rows further down the shoe (skipping two rows).
STEP 3:
Pull both ends straight down on the inside and through the next lower set of eyelets.
STEP 4:
Continue three rows up on the outside, one row back on the inside, and finish with the ends feeding under the sides and out through the bottom eyelets.
4. BAR LACE
This style really stands out when you carefully alternate the over/under weave to achieve an authentic look.
STEP 1:
Start from the top and pull laces down through the first two eyelets.
STEP 2:
Run left end straight up the inside of the eyelet below, then straight across and down through the eyelet across.
STEP 3:
Alternate running lace up on the inside and across on the outside until you reach the bottom. Then, tuck lace ends under the tongue of the sneaker.
